The Steve Boniface Memorial/Bristol Summer Congress was held from Aug 21st-23rd at Bristol Grammar School in the very heart of Bristol.  There were 78 entries in 3 sections.  As usual, catering was from Rosie from Hereford.  Free parking and local hotels make this event convenient for players.
(Upcoming dates at the same venue Nov 27-29,  Feb 26-28)

  FIDE Open

The Open section was won by third seed Carl Bicknell, a local player, with an impressive 5/5.

But the surprise of the Open was Roger Pearce (ECF155) who was only one point away from being eligible to play in the Major.  He started with 3/3!!- beating the top 2 seeds along the way.

The grading prize was won by Juan Fernandez, from Santandar in northern Spain.  He combined an English holiday around his chess weekend in Bristol

I think a lot of juniors played in the big junior chess festival in Gibraltar.
Which was on at the same time.
